Est-ce que Vicki s’est bien rendue compte de cette première étape qui se jouait chez elle, lorsque PETER MATSON est venu mixer à une petite tawa de copains dans sa maison de South Brooklyn en 2011 ? Savait-elle déjà que son « ami-qui-mixe-un-peu » allait devenir ce musicien et producteur à univers multiples et parcourir la Planet-e avec son groupe et ses dj-sets ? Nous, on pense que oui !
Ses papiers disent qu’il est né en 1987 à Los Angeles, mais PETER MATSON est vraiment né à New York avec le groupe afro-post-punk qu’il a créé, Underground System. Avec cette formation bien barrée inspirée d’un titre de Fela Kuti, Peter produit des concerts tout autour du monde et des disques sur différents labels dont tu ne reconnaîtras pas les noms, non non : Soul Clap, Hell Yeah et Planet-e (mais ça on te l’avait déjà dit !). Le groupe a même quelques récentes sorties sur Heavenly Sweetness, à écouter sans hésiter !
Quand il n’est pas en groupe, PETER MATSON la joue solo aux platines, et ça envoie du bon son de l’Europe à l’Amérique latine : des loft parties de Mexico au Festival Yeah de Lourmarin, des Eurockéennes de Brooklyn aux Nightmoves de Belfort (ou l’inverse, tu ne crois pas ?), de la Central Park Summerstage au Fusion Festival, le dee-jay découvre toujours de nouvelles frontières à franchir avec l’amour du son. Que ce soit avec Bastard Jazz, Razor-n-Tape ou Heist Recordings, ses derniers remixes font vibrer Brooklyn d’une dance brûlante et bien à lui. Qu’il s’agite à coups d’instruments sur la scène de grands festivals ou à la maison sur des sets de toute une nuit, Peter s’est fait une sacrée place dans le monde de la dance music, un espace musical unique et bien à lui.
On ne te parlera pas de ‘Bigtime EP’ sorti avec J-Kriv ni de ses remixes pour Fouk et Felipe Gordon aussi sur Heist Recordings, encore moins de toutes les productions d’Underground System incluant des remixes de Yuksek et d’Andres, mais tu vas adorer l’immensité du cosmos musical de PETER MATSON… Et avec son dernier EP ‘The Right Way’ sur Bastard Jazz, tout se confirme d’une évidente manière : Peter est bel et bien un musicien et producteur rare, capable de fédérer des communautés toutes entières à coup de bon son. Ce qui donne encore plus envie de suivre la (prochaine ?) sortie de son premier album en solo !
Avec ces 61 minutes de mix inédit, PETER MATSON nous expédie un superbe colis de house de disco et d’indie, pour nous mettre les oreilles en folle mélodie et le palpitant au paradis !

Did Vicki realize that the first step was being taken, when PETER MATSON came to mix for a house party at her South Brooklyn home in 2011? Did she already know that her “friend-who-mixes-a-little” was going to become this all-encompassing musician and producer, and travel the Planet-e with his band and dj-sets? We think so!
