Bien plus que cela, c'est un poète-compositeur qui vibre de 15 années de voyage sonore et nous emmène avec lui vers son prochain hori-son. On aurait pu l'appeler le vagabond musical, le baroudeur sonore ou encore l'explorateur de pistes… mais il porte déjà très bien son nom, EL GATO NEGRO. Aucune superstition à avoir avec ce chat noir qui porte bonheur et dont l'univers si accueillant et coloré nous aura vite ensorcelé.
Sa longue balade commence alors qu'il est tout juste majeur, et comprend qu'il doit aller à la rencontre de cet univers immense et de toutes ses cultures et vibrations musicales. Il va passer 15 années à travers le monde, avec son balu-son sur l'épaule, ses oreilles à l'affût et ses yeux grands ouverts. Abolissant toute frontière ou ligne de démarcation quelle qu'elle soit, il écoute son cœur et son instinct librement et ouvre la porte d'un cosmos sans fin où la musique et les rencontres, où le rythme et l'humain ne feront jamais plus qu'un.
Dans son prochain album,Tigre qui pleure, Axel alias EL GATO NEGRO nous rappelle que malgré son apparence de chat qui s'en va tout seul, il est toujours (très) bien accompagné.Guts à la supervision, Florian Pelissier au clavier, Cyril Atef aux percussions et Izem au beatmaking : la partition est donnée. Et voilà que s'invitent les voix de Pat Kalla, Djeuhdjoah et Lieutenant Nicholson, venant danser en chœur avec le n'goni et le tama, avec les balafons et les synthés. Un voyage aussi inédit qu'évident, où la sagesse des griots résonne au creux des beats de hip hop mélodique, et où "le sucré d'un fruit cueilli sur l'arbre laisse parfois la place au café amer."

We could have called him the musical vagabond, the sonic adventurer or the trail explorer... but he already lives up to his name, EL GATO NEGRO. There's no need to be superstitious with this lucky black cat, whose welcoming, colorful universe will soon have us under its spell.
His long journey began when he was just of age, and he realized that he had to discover this immense universe and all its cultures and musical vibrations. He spent the next 15 years traveling the world, with his balu-son slung over his shoulder, his ears perked up and his eyes wide open. Abolishing all borders and demarcation lines whatsoever, he listens freely to his heart and instinct, and opens the door to an endless cosmos where music and encounters, where rhythm and humanity are as one.
On his forthcoming album, Tigre qui pleure, Axel alias EL GATO NEGRO reminds us that, despite his appearance as a cat who goes off on his own, he's always (very) well accompanied. Guts on supervision, Florian Pelissier on keyboard, Cyril Atef on percussion and Izem on beatmaking: the score is set. Then the voices of Pat Kalla, Djeuhdjoah and Lieutenant Nicholson join in, dancing in chorus with the n'goni and tama, balafons and synths. A journey as original as it is obvious, where the wisdom of the griots resonates in the hollow of melodic hip hop beats, and where "the sweetness of a fruit picked from the tree sometimes gives way to bitter coffee."
