So fresh! "A winter in the sun" du dernier album de Hypnolove Attention vous risquez un fort risque de sifflotement à la fin de la chanson. L'album en écoute, "Ghost Carnival", sortie le 22 avril 2013 en France, et le 13 mai à l'international. Ghost Carnival - Hypnolove sur iTunes Bric et broc électro-pop, ménagerie de cors français et de harpes pré-raphaélites, trio mâle de tête et voix de femelles échappées de la pièce, là-bas, au fond du couloir. C'est le Carnaval des Fantômes, un jour des Morts au Mexique, le Consul en mauvais guide. À l'ouvrage, les Hypnolove, un trio basé à Toulouse mais aux origines étalées : française, portugaise, allemande. Leur premier album "Eurolove" et le hit "Mademoiselle" en passeport continental c'était... Il y a... Sept ans déjà. Depuis ? La musique reste une passion. Des retrouvailles de potes. Un vrai groupe de musiciens qui font de la scène, par plaisir avant tout. Comme quand ils étaient ados, biberonnés à l'électro-pop, New Order ou Pet Shop Boys, ou, à l'âge adulte, à s'échanger groupes obscurs, étranges et étrangers, producteurs cryptiques et disques incertains...Sept ans de réflexion... Gants de velours, le producteur Mickey Moonlight, l'anglais d'Ed Banger, est aux commandes. Il fallait bien quelqu'un à l'esprit aussi foutraque pour mettre de l'ordre et canaliser le trio. Un cor français ouvre la première piste, telle une voix de brume perdue sur une bande d'Arthur Russell. Arrive une rythmique phat, lourde, perchée du côté d'ESG sous influence Martin Hannett. Le deuxième titre, le génial "Holiday Reverie" ouvre de nouveaux horizons, échappée Zouk pour les petits loulous. Le troisième retrouve les amours électro-pop ado avec un petit goût du "Night" de Valérie Doré. Quatrième piste, "Winter In The Sun", jeux des contraires toujours, et mélodie attrape-coeurs suavement interprétée par Findlay Brown. "Come To My Empire" en 5ème position, les Hypno se font kinky, la tension monte, l'électro-pop se cape de noir. Voix féminines sur "Beyond Paradise", celles des Puro Instinct, compagnes de label, et montée toute en arpège, pop toujours plus pop. Le 7 est le titre de l'album : "Ghost Carnival" et la voix de Freya Parry, 9 ans et toutes ses dents. Les claviers italo sont plus prononcés plage 8, "Sleepwalker", sur le fil, surtout ne pas réveiller le funambule. "Goodnight Kiss", joli excipit, bonne nuit les amis. Neuf titres au total et 99 émotions au compteur. La magie opère, danse des contraires, l'hiver au soleil. Odyssée pop, forcément pop, mélancolique et rigolarde. La pochette est l`oeuvre de Yazbukey qui a créé et porté un bijou grandeur nature pour l`occasion. Welcome to the Ghost Carnival… Featuring the musical talent of Thierry (vocals/keys), Henning (vocals/chords/drums) and Nicolas (guitar/bass), Hypnolove is a group formed between friends that share a common dream, and above all, a passion for discovering and creating music that defies easy categorization. In the purest sense, `Ghost Carnival` delivers a delightful moment of modern pop, although delve deeper and their more obscure influences shine bright , something that the producer, Ed Banger`s UK ambassador Mickey Moonlight, should also take great credit for. Nicolas explains, “We needed to find a guideline for this album and although disco and pop built the frame that we worked from, our listening is much wider than that. Artists such as the Walker Brothers, Lucio Battisti, Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Prince, Strafe, ZZ Top, Talking Heads… the list goes on, all of them deserve a salute!” Thierry continues, “We are always looking for new music to listen to and we are all LP lovers, so it was very important for us to make a cohesive album that worked from back to front. Working with Mike was fantastic, he knew all our reference points and was able to change our sound for the better without betraying the spirit of our songs” There`s no doubt that the combination of Hypnolove`s song-writing with Mike`s production style has elevated the band`s sound and there`s a clear progression in ideas and song structures from their 2006 debut `Eurolove`. That album featured the cult hit `Mademoiselle` and, like `Ghost Carnival`, was the embodiment of several years of work and that can only be put down to the group performing for pleasure before anything else. Like when they were teenagers, injected with electro-pop, New Order and the Pet Shop Boys, or years later, uncovering obscure bands and stranger more-cryptic oddities, their sound and musical connection is a natural evolution of experience and knowledge. Lasting just over 30mins, `Ghost Carnival` is as short as it is sweet, but it makes sure that not a moment is spared, with the warm feeling of a summer`s day shining down from the outset. The already released `Holiday Reverie` follows the French-horned, Arthur Russell inspired intro `Simple Classic Beautiful` that provides just enough skip to start your step. The glistening electro-pop of `Midnight Cruising` and band-favourite `Come To My Empire` fall neatly either side of `Winter In The Sun` that features the brilliant vocal talent of British singer Findlay Brown. Two more friends then join the party, with Puro Instinct leader Piper Kaplan and the 9 years-old Freya Parry providing the female touch on both `Beyond Paradise` and `Ghost Carnival` to brilliant effect. There`s one last blast of Italo strings with the dance floor driven `Sleepwalker`, before `Goodnight Kiss` provides the perfect, and memorable, goodbye the album so deserves.
