Voici donc la trajectoire hors-normes de DJ OIL alias Lionel Corsini, qui revient avec son 2ème album solo, "PHANTOM" cette fois-ci sur BBE (DJ VADIM).
L'album sera catalogué 90's et "trip-hop" mais après plusieurs écoutes, il sonnera plus comme du hip-hop, comme avec ce sample "Why Don't I Just Drop Out?" qui a l'air piqué dans un discours afro-américain radical des années 60 ou 70.
L`atmosphère est sombre et travaillée, malgré tout spontanée car DJ OIL l'a enregistré comme en live, chez lui, à des soirées mais jamais en studio. On retrouve sans conteste cet esprit "analogue" tout au long du disque.

True veteran of the underground music and party scene in his native Marseille, Lionel Corsini, aka DJ Oil released his well-received solo debut as recently as 2012 (Black Notes for French label Discograph) but is probably better known as one part of The Troublemakers, who had the (probably unique?) distinction of being signed to both the legendary `90s house label Guidance and the most famous of all jazz labels, Blue Note.
The latter didn`t work out too satisfactorily for Lionel, who found himself constrained by Blue Note`s corporate ways as part of a major and yearning for the freedom he`d had as an independent artist at an independent label.
Nonetheless, the trajectory from Guidance to Blue Note gives you some idea of the range of Oil`s music.
From country blues, through township jive and Rahsaan Roland Kirk-style `flute` vocalizations, with the occasional nod to four-to-the-floor house, DJ Oil runs the musical gamut, using modern technology to recreate the virtual orchestra existing in his head and gifting us an astonishingly assured and rather exceptional album, which surely should break this stalwart of the French underground scene to a larger international audience.
Making up for the `lost years` with Blue Note, Lionel Corsini`s creative juices are clearly flowing freely at the moment.

DJ OIL, alias Lionel Corsini en solo est aussi la moitié du célèbre duo TROUBLEMAKERS.
Marseillais de souche, il sort son premier album solo aussi tard qu'en 2012 (sur Discograph) alors que "Doubts & Convictions" l'album qu'il sort avec Arnaud Taillefer & Fred Berthet en tant que TROUBLEMAKERS date de 2001 déjà!
Auteurs du tube "Get Misunderstood" et plusieurs autres sur le disque, ils sont les premiers français à avoir signés sur le label House US mythique Guidance et conjointement sur le label jazz anglais BLUE NOTE.
Avec plus de 100 000 disques vendus, TROUBLEMAKERS a été le fer de lance d'une scène "trip-hop" qui s'essoufflait et dans laquelle ils ont injecté l'aspect cinématique qui a ravivé la flamme.
